CFE compressor/updater for the WRT54G-V5.0 unit only....this is not for a GS unit. As always....use at our own risk....WE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR A BRICKED ROUTER. This has been tested on multiple units and is functioning properly if the update instructions are followed exactly. Currently, this is a ONE WAY operation...meaning it will take your current 256K CFE...Extracts the neccessary variables, inserts them into a compressed CFE and reloads the unit with this new 128K CFE....it can not be reversed without using TJTAG. (we are working on a reversion tool for this...but that is a later project) Functionally, your router will not change....the only change is the size of your original CFE from 256K down to 128K. This gives you the ability to run the micro_plus firmware that includes a more complete command set. (same as the mini build of firmware) For more information about Micro+ follow this link http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=36185 Prerequisits: - The WRT54G-V5.0 unit MUST already be running dd-wrt. If it is a virgin unit running Linksys OEM firmware, please follow these instructions for upgrading first. http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owbase/ow.asp?WRT54G5%5FCFE - It is strongly advised to make a cfe.bin backup before beginning this process...then you can recover with JTAG if something should go wrong. Point your browser to http:///backup/cfe.bin and save the file to your computer. It should be 256K in size. - The tftp2.exe program (currently, it is not advised or tested using the web gui for this update) http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/tornado/Windows-TFTP/tftp2.exe - A copy of the Mirco+ firmware http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn10431/dd-wrt.v24-10431_NEWD_micro-plus.bin - A copy of the WRT54Gv5.0 updater located here. http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Ftornado%2FCFE_Updater%2FWRT54Gv5/ Update process: 1 - Hard reset to defaults (http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Hard_reset_or_30/30/30) 2 - Set you computer to a static IP address like 192.168.1.10 and 255.255.255.0 for a mask (no GW is needed) 3 - Run the tftp utility If you are unsure about how to use tftp follow these instructions http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/TFTP_flash#Linksys_TFTP_GUI The file you will select is the CFE_Updater-Gv5-comp.bin 4 - After you get a success message in the tftp utility wait 5 minutes (to verifiy that the unit has rebooted, you can open a command tool and do a "ping -t 192.168.1.1" from the command prompt...when you receive a TTL 100 response...the unit has rebooted.) 5 - Now its time to tftp the micro+ onto the unit. Follow the same process as in step 3 but use the V24_micro_plus.bin file (not VINT build) 6 - wait 2 more minutes...the unit will reboot itself and WLAN LED will light up when it is finished. 7 - hard reset again....configure...enjoy the new micro+ on your unit. After you successfully flash the updater and micro+ firmware all future firmware updates can be done through the dd-wrt web gui. There is no need to run the updater again. Just follow normal procedure of hard reset, flash firmware, wait 2 minutes, hard reset, configure....no backup/restore
