Hi!

I managed to brick my WRT54GS v1.1 while making overclock to 280 with dd-wrt. Yes I know, I should have read the instructions before, but i actually didn't want to overclock, but to increase its power... damn stupid...

Well... i have my JTAG cable, but i cannot revive it. TJTAG works flawless.

I have backed up nvram and wholeflash, and created new CFE with http://lonewolf.hacker-nin.com/wrt/cfe/

Main problem is... power light flashing, no ping...

I tried first flashing cfe... sucessfuly in 480 sec. Did disconnect power and connect it again, but lights are still blinking and no ping.

I tried erasing nvram... no good, still the same... actually, i tried to "edit" a copy of nvram, and found there problematic "overclock" mention...

Is it possible to get a "good" nvram.bin, cause i believe a problem lies there? If I do wholeflash, does it do any good? where do i get wholeflash.bin?

If I delete nvram and wholeflash, and flash with new CFE, will that mean that all previous config are delete (especially all links with overclocking)?

Sorry for newby questions... I have attached both my CFE.bin and saved NVRAM.bin, where obviously my problem lies... Any advice?

Do a wholeflash erase 2 times reboot the router each time.
Then flash a working cfe for your router version reboot after.
Then tftp the firmware for your router version.

Wholeflash erase erases everything cfe, kernel firmware, nvram everything.

Ok, thanks...

did it... Everything worked flawlessly... both erasing wholeflash (2x, 2x disconnected from power)
tjtagv2 -erase:wholeflash

and installing CFE (after that disconnected from power and reconnected).
tjtagv2 -flash:cfe

However... power light still flashing and no ping :(

Well... i guess that, either something else in hardware is wrong or i use wrong CFE...

I'm lost... Sad and starting to think that my beloved router cannot be recovered

Assuming the cfe you are using is good.
Do a wholeflash erase 2 times reboot the router each time.
Then flash a working cfe for your router version reboot after.

Download and Rename this to kernel
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn11296/dd-wrt.v24-11296_NEWD_mini.bin

Download the above^^^ and rename it kernel and place it in the same folder as your tjtag program.
Using your jtag cable and tjtag flash the kernel(firmware) to your router -flash:kernel /noemw /noreset
C:\Documents and Settings\Matevz\Desktop\linksys\tjtagv2-1-4\windows>tjtagv2 -flash:kernel /noemw /noreset
This will take a long time to finish after it's finish flashing reboot your router and do 30/30/30 reset.

30/30/30 hard reset before and after each upgrade.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Hard_reset_or_30/30/30

Then use this to update to a newer build of DD-WRT (MEGA VERSION) use web GUI of DD-WRT to update.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn11296/dd-wrt.v24-11296_NEWD_mega.bin

30/30/30 hard reset before and after each upgrade.

For Jorgeebn (And other)

Can I suggest to uploade the CFE and NVRAM to as original bin file but az ZIP to avoit corruption during download?

AND also instead CFE.BIN should be better to rename thezip with info about router modem/router version and any other usefull info.

Es. WRT-54G_v11_CFE.ZIP

Thanks.

i guess something must be wrong with CFE, and I don't have a valid CFE... Sad (MAC adress of router is 00:14:BF:36:E3:14)

Try this cfe but before you do do a 4 wholeflash erase reboot each time after each finish. Then flash this cfe after it finish reboot and follow the directions above. When tftp remove your jtag cable from the router first. Read 6. and 11. on tftp of this thread.

What the heck are you talking about?

The CFE is either 128K or 256K. There are no "sub parts" to a cfe of 64K. NVRAM is 64K but that is not part of the CFE.

Flash is partitioned to

CFE, nvram, kernel, jffs

That's about it.

Well ...

I can't de-brick my router.

WRT-54G v8

I've erased the wholeflash, the kernel, the nvram, the cfe everything 10 times ... I've flashed everything you can imagine, from BSP, kernel, nvram, cfe and so on ... copy files from a equal hardware. But no way ...

No power led ... just the 4 LAN's are ON ... - no ping, no nothing ... just jtag cable can recognize the unit.

:( I think there is no way to fix it right ?

Too bad.

Are U in the US.. Send that bitch to me.. I'll fix it!

Here is the deal... Unbuffered jtag is not too reliable. 1st, you have to make sure you have a GOOD,WORKING cfe.

Flash it, then back it up and compare it to the original file. It better match. If not, do it again.

When the cfe is flashed properly & working, then the router should accept pings. Then, tftp the firmware image.

You will be there for hours trying to jtag the kernel. No reason for it.

Just an FYI & I donno why. My V8 is a bitch to get it to flash via jtag with out it blowing out somewhere in the transfer.
